Texas Instruments Loans Equipment for Teacher Trainings.
Are you going to be hosting a teacher training, and considering the use of digital probes for collecting GLOBE data? If so, you may be interested in an equipment loan program that Texas Instruments Incorporated is running. Texas Instruments provides free "workshop loan kits" to groups in the US that will be hosting teacher trainings. These kits include technology equipment, activities and more. These kits are typically loaned for a 4-week period, and are designed to aid you in your training and give you a chance to evaluate the equipment. Among the equipment that can be requested as part of these kits are Vernier probe sensors, some of which can be used to collect environmental data for GLOBE. These sensors meet the GLOBE specifications for measuring air temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity. GLOBE is currently developing materials and instrument specifications to support the use of probes for taking hydrology measurements. It looks like Vernier probes will eventually be able to be used to collect GLOBE data for water temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and possibly nitrate. More information about this program is available at http://education.ti.com/loan. The US Math and Science Teacher form lists the available sensors and graphing technology available for loan. You can submit a workshop request: by phone (888-917-6411), email workshop-loan [at] ti [dot] com, or by filling out an online form on the web site mentioned above.
